SALAAM NAMASTE-CELEBRATING FOUNDER'S DAY
AT WIRE DIVISION

As a matter of great pride in Mr. Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata, the legendary founder of the Tata empire, whose birthday it was on the 3rd of March, all of us at Wire Division eagerly assembled to pay our humble tribute and respectful homage to one of India's noblest souls and recall history which revolutionized the nation while making the Tatas a household name and force to reckon with.

The ceremony which began at 10 am  saw us all making our way up the stairway to the Training Centre at Borivali. Once there, the entire congregation lined up to offer reverence to this great Son of India.

Mr. P. R. Raste, Chief HR/IR while eulogizing our Founder, stated that Mr.  Jamshetji Tata would always inspire awe in our minds for the unstinting dedication he displayed in laying the foundation of the first ever steel plant on Indian soil, an amazing and audacious feat in an era that saw us besieged and enslaved by the unrelenting British rulers, who could not fathom the audacity of an Indian to start a steel industry in India. Without going into further details, he invited us to watch the documentary film, “Keepers of the Flame”, on this celebrated personality to learn all we could of this pioneer of the steel industry in India.

The grandeur of this splendid film, which touched on the lives and times of the three Tata stalwarts Jamsetiji Tata, JRD Tata and Naval Tata, had us all spellbound. Directed by the well known filmmaker Zafar Hai, this masterpiece took us back in time on an adventurous and breathtaking trip in the lives of these magnificent, magnanimous and majestic men of steel and their tryst with destiny.

Mr. Jamshetji Tata's visionary foresight in laying the foundation of an industrial revolution transformed India into a nation filled with confidence in its own strength. Tata Steel, as it basks in the glory and grandeur of the successes of this indomitable visionary, whose benchmark achievements we celebrate today, stands tall and very strong among the global steel giants both technologically and ethically thanks to the blueprint of the roadmap left behind by our beloved Founder. This awesome film truly touched a chord within us and left us with a sense of elation, inspiration and admiration for this national hero. We can't but help salute the perseverance of this iconic personality with the following verse from Longfellow's poem :

Lives of great men all remind us,
We can make our lives sublime,
And departing, leave behind us,
Footprints on the sands of time.

HISTORY REVISITED SHIVAJI JAYANTI

Saffron appeared to be the colour of the day. Decorative arches, orange flowers and serial lightings were put up all over the factory premises, as Wire Division was set to celebrate Shivaji Jayanti with great zeal. The entire place wore a festive look on the day of the event, when all of us gathered in large numbers to honour the memory of this monarch of Maharashtra in a big way.

'We started the function at 10 am on 18th March to the sound of feisty drum beats. A grand procession wound its way to the statue of Shivaji, which was adorned with flowers and lights. Mr. S. N. Kadam, President workeres union kickstarted the function with the traditional breaking of the coconut. Mr. P. R. Raste, Chief HR/IR mounted the pedestal to pay homage to this great leader and garlanded his statue. He extolled the virtues of this genius king of Maharashtra and exhorted one and all to emulate his virtues of bravery and sense of justice. The atmosphere resonated in reply with shouts of, “Shivaji Maharaj ki jai.” The ceremony ended on a sweet note, with mithai being distributed to all the admirers of this great leader.

All of us then went back to work touched by the ideals of Shivaji, the valiant mountain king.
