Observance of "Chemical Disaster Prevention Day - 4th Dec" -
2004
All over India 4th December is being observed as
"Chemical Disaster Prevention day". It is in remembrance of the tragic chemical
disaster at Union Carbide plant at Bhopal in the midnight of 3rd December 1984. The impact
of the disaster caused havoc at Bhopal and created concern towards Safety & Accident
Prevention movement world over.
We here at Tata Steel - Wire Division have been observing
this day every year with due remembrance of the victims of Bhopal tragedy and focus on
creating awareness among our employees about implications of such disasters.
This year we observed this day by involving emergency
handling key personnels and MIDC fire brigade team. Our Wire Rod Mill employees also
participated in this event.
The day was observed by display of banners, mock drill on
LPG leak, testing and training of new water sprinkler and water monitor system provided at
LPG yard followed by observing one minute silence to pay homage to the Bhopal Gas Victims.
The key members as per emergency preparedness plan were
then allocated individual roles to participate in the planned mock drill. The mock drill
carried out with keeping observers at different locations.
The mock drill was very well handled by all key persons and
took 12 minutes. Mr.P.W. Prabhu - Chief, TWP asked members to regroup again to take stock
of the observations and suggestions emerged out of drill. Particularly on newly installed
water sprinkler system and water monitors.
The observations and suggestions especially from observers
and Fire officer were of appreciative nature and they praised the initiative and
participation of Tata Steel employees towards disaster management area.
The activity was planned and executed by Safety and HR/IR
with close association from Maintenance, Operations (TWP), Enng.dept, security and members
of safety committee of TWP.
